12 Things To Know About John Krasinski And Jenna Fischer’s Relationship

12 Things To Know About John Krasinski And Jenna Fischer’s Relationship

  • Fischer and Krasinski’s off-screen friendship adds to the charm of Jim and Pam’s on-screen romance.
  • Krasinski and Fischer maintain a close relationship post-The Office, supporting each other in their careers.
  • The actors’ real-life marriages and families mirror the timeline of Jim and Pam’s relationship on the show.

Jim and Pam’s relationship was one of the best parts of The Office and a lot of what has to do with the work of actors Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski. Pam was the soft-spoken but kind receptionist at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office while Jim was the charming office prankster who never took the job too seriously. However, together, they made for a charming couple as the show followed Jim and Pam through their early days of flirting, their eventual marriage with kids, and even some of their more difficult times.

When it comes to popular television couples, many fans get curious about how the actors’ relationships are off-screen. While Fischer and Krasinski never did have a romance despite their amazing chemistry together, their pair have maintained a crowd-pleasing friendship over the years while also reminiscing on their time working together on The Office. Learning more about Fischer and Krasinski’s relationship makes the Jim and Pam romance even more enjoyable.

The Office: How Old Jim & Pam Are At The Beginning & End Of The Show

Jim and Pam were two of the younger starring characters in The Office. Here’s a breakdown of their ages during major moments in the series.

One of the things fans have to come to terms with when it comes to some of the best sitcom romances of all time is that these couples are rarely seen together after the show ends. Jim and Pam became such an endearing couple to fans for years, so it is somewhat sad that they don’t get to see more of these two actors together anymore. However, that is not to say the closeness between John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer has changed since the end of the show.

According to ET Canada, when John Krasinski was asked how his friendship with Jenna Fischer was now that they weren’t on The Office, and if he’d ever work with her again. Krasinski responded:

“I would love to work on anything with Jenna. She is the absolute greatest actress. But also more than that, she’s the most amazing person… So I would love to spend all my time with her if I could.”

While it would be weird to see these two working together on something where they are not playing Jim and Pam, it would be a thrill for fans to see a future collaboration.

Krasinski Shot Down A Controversial Storyline To Save Jim & Pam

Every fan has their favorite storyline on The Office, but Pam’s odd friendship with Brian in season 9 wasn’t one of them. No one wanted to see Pam flirt with another man. While the friendship didn’t ultimately lead to anything else, it seemed like a bold direction for the show to take given how iconic Jim and Pam were as a couple. However, it was not the first time a cheating storyline was brought up for the couple.

According to Deseret News, the writers suggested that Jim cheated on Pam with Cathy in season 8 while Pam was away on maternity leave. This would mean that all of Pam’s worries before she left the office were valid. John Krasinski said it was the one time he refused to film. The storyline was changed into Cathy simply trying to seduce Jim and him ultimately rejecting her advances. While it led to Cathy disappearing from The Office abruptly, it was better than the alternative idea.

Krasinski & Fischer Knew Right Away That They Had A Connection

The reason why Jim and Pam worked so well as characters is because of their chemistry between John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. While the entire ensemble of The Office worked together so effectively, there is a reason so many of the Jim and Pam scenes rank among the best in the series. Both actors looked like they were genuinely drawn to each other and created a compelling relationship from the beginning.

Just as Jim and Pam’s relationship seemed to work right from the beginning of the series, the two actors also found their chemistry early on in their time working together. While it can be awkward for two strangers to suddenly begin acting as a couple with a deep connection, it wasn’t difficult for Krasinski and Fischer. According to Nicki Swift, during an episode of The Office Ladies, Fischer said this about meeting Krasinski during the auditioning process:

“What if you walked into a room and music started playing and you and another person just started dancing in unison even though you’d never met? That’s what it was like auditioning with you.”

Fischer Believed They Really Were Jim & Pam IRL

Fans Were Intrigued By Fischer’s Admission

There are a number of examples of TV couples getting together in real life, from Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell on The Americans to Kit Harington and Rose Leslie on Game of Thrones. It is always a thrill for fans as there is a sense that they are watching the actors really fall in love alongside their characters. Not surprisingly, there were many fans who wanted to see a romance blossom between Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski.

Fischer herself added fuel to this during an interview when she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she and Krasinski were “genuinely in love with each other.” Perhaps understanding how that could be taken out of context by eager fans, Fischer quickly clarified that the actors shared a lot of similarities with the characters and there were times that it felt like they really were Jim and Pam, but ultimately they differed from these roles too and they were not the perfect match their characters seemed to be.

Krasinski Further Clarified Their Love For Each Other

Despite the fact that Fischer attempted to clarify what she meant by saying she and Krasinski were “genuinely in love” while on the show, it’s not surprising that many fans of The Office ran with that quote. The idea of one of the most iconic sitcom couples of all time leading to a real romance between the actors is the kind of story that fans love to hear and that publications are more than willing to push out to their readers.

The quote grew to the point that Krasinski also had to weigh in on the matter and helped to point out that, while Fischer didn’t say anything that was not true, it was endlessly misquoted and taken out of context, resulting in it becoming a bigger story than it actually was. Krasinski further suggested that what Fischer meant by the comments was that their acting relationship helped strengthen the fictional romance of Jim and Pam (viaThe Daily Beast).

Fischer Disagrees With The Office Cast About Jim & Pam’s First Kiss

Was It “The Dundies” Or “Casino Night”?

The timeline of Jim and Pam’s relationship in The Office is a big reason fans were so invested in the romance. It took a long time for the stars to align and for them to officially become a couple. However, there were important moments leading up to that including their first kiss. Funny enough, some of the cast members disagree on when the first kiss actually occurred.

The topic was brought up on an episode of The Office Ladies podcast where the rest of the cast insisted the first kiss between Jim and Pam was at this show’s first episode feature the Dundies. Pam got into an argument with Roy and had one too many drinks. After winning an award for the whitest sneakers she ran back into Jim’s arms and accidentally kissed him while hugging. However, Fischer insists the real first kiss came in the episode “Casino Night” after Jim confessed he was in love with Pam.

The Actors Were Separated For The Kiss Scene

Despite the fact that the Dundies kiss might have been their first in the series, there is no denying that the most important kiss between Jim and Pam in the series was during the “Casino Night” episode. After Jim confesses his love for Pam and she insists she loves him as a friend, Jim finds her in the office and they share their first kiss. It is a wonderful moment to end the second season and a pivotal one for the series as a whole.

It seems as though everyone knew the importance of the moment as special precautions were taken to ensure it was as effective as it could be. In an episode of The Office Ladies podcast, Krasinski and Fischer looked back on the episode and revealed that they were kept separate from each other leading up to the kiss. The moment Jim entered the office was the first time the two saw each other and gave the kiss a more urgent feel.

Krasinski Really Was A Prankster On Set

The Actor Follows Jim’s Penchant For Pranks

Jim’s pranks were among the funniest recurring jokes on The Office. While Dwight was always his main target, he sometimes went after other people in the office, such as when he gave Andy a list of things Pam hates when he was attempting to woo her. As it turns out, this is another area of playing Jim that John Krasinski could relate to as he also liked to pull some pranks while on the set of the show.

In the episode where Jim and Pam spend the night at Schrute Farms, Fisher said that she and Krasinski had to do a couple of takes of them driving in the car on the way up to the farm. Fischer began to get uncomfortably warm in the car and couldn’t find any relief for it and Krasinski insisted he felt fine. It wasn’t until much later that Fischer realized Krasinski had turned on her seat warmer (via Vulture).

The Former Costars Get Together Often

The Office ended in 2013 after nine seasons on NBC. Thanks to online streaming, the show is making a comeback with the younger generations and is now even more popular than it was when it was on the air. Since the show ended, several of the cast members have had some notable reunions. Recently, John Krasinski reunited with Dwight actor Rainn Wilson while there was an unusual The Office reunion when Krasinski directed Steve Carell in If.

However, there are a lot of fans who are curious about how well the original Jim and Pam actors stay in touch. While their reunions have perhaps not been in front of the cameras like in some instances, it seems that the two actors do see each other quite oftenand have been maintaining a heartwarming friendship all these years later (via Glamour):

“I see Jenna [Fischer] all the time. I love her husband, Lee [Kirk], and their kids are amazing, so we get together a bunch.”

Krasinski & Fischer Support Each Other’s Work When They Can

Krasinski And Fischer Have Each Continued With Successful Careers After The Show

After The Office wrapped up, Krasinski and Fischer dove into other projects. Among the cast of The Office, Krasinski has had one of the most impressive careers. He appeared in movies like 13 Hours and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness while also starring in the titular role in the series Jack Ryan. He has also started directing, earning acclaim for his sci-fi horror movie A Quiet Place.

Sweetly, while Fischer was excited to see Krasinski’s work, she admits to People that she ended up chickening out of watching the movie in which Krasinski and his real-life wife Emily Blunt appear because she didn’t want to see her friends in peril. However, when it came to Fischer starring in a new play, Reasons to be Happy, Krasinski and Blunt were shown to have attended one of the performances (via The Daily Mail).

Fischer & Krasinski Are Diehards For Their Cities

The ongoing relationship that Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski share years after The Office ended is very sweet. However, it turns out there is one subject that brings up some contention between the friends, and that is the world of professional hockey. John Krasinski was born and raised in Boston whereas Jenna Fischer was raised in St. Louis. Their devotion to their cities came to a head when the St. Louis Blues were playing the Boston Bruins in the NHL’s 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs (via E! News).

Both actors were seen at the games cheering on their teams. They even shared some smack talk online, making for a fun ongoing back-and-forth throughout the hockey series. However, Krasinski got the best shot in as he posted a response to Fischer’s previous smack talking in which he revealed he was at one of the games with David Denman, who played Pam’s original fiancé, Roy, in The Office.

Fischer Gloated About Krasinski In Her Book

In 2017, Fischer released her book The Actor’s Life: A Survival Guide, which detailed her own experiences as an actress on the rise. She dishes out what fellow actors need to do to separate themselves from the pack by detailing her own ups and downs in the industry. It is a helpful and inspiring book for young people interested in the profession with advice coming from someone who has already succeeded.

However, one aspect Fischer mentions that was a big help was something that is out of many actors’ control — having a good scene partner. Fischer took the opportunity to praise Krasinski and express the joy she had working with him. She also included a story about the pair auditioning for the show together and them both confessing that they were their favorite scene partners, hoping they would get the job together.

Krasinski & Fischer Both Got Married In 2010

While there are many fans who would have loved to see Jim and Pam’s romance come true with a relationship between Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski, the actors found love elsewhere, and interestingly enough, their romance timelines match up with each other. Fischer met filmmaker Lee Kirk in 2008 while filming the movie The Giant Mechanical Man. In the same year, Krasinski met Oscar-nominated actor Emily Blunt leading to their relationship.

The timelines continued to sync up with Fischer marrying Kirk in July 2010, the same month Krasinski and Blunt got married. Both couples also have two children each, further highlighting the similarities in their romantic paths. Interestingly enough, Kirk also has a cameo in The Office during the sixth season as a nurse who helps Pam with breastfeeding following the birth of her daughter with Jim.

John Krasinski Wrote The Teapot Note

The Note Was Krasinski’s Goodbye To Fischer

Pam with a teapot in The Office

The teapot was a memorable item that fans of The Office know as being very important to Jim and Pam’s relationship. It was seen for the first time in season 2’s Christmas episode in which Jim gets Pam a teapot she wanted while also filling it with a bunch of items that reference inside jokes the pair share together. Jim also included a letter explaining his true feelings to Pam but chose not to give it to her in the end as she was still with Roy.

However, in the final season of the show, Jim finally gives Pam the letter. Despite the fact that they are married and have kids together, the letter brings Pam to tears and the audience never gets to see what it says. On an episode of The Office Ladies podcast, Fischer revealed that only she and Krasinski know what the letter says, and that it was written by Krasinski. She also revealed that it was not between Jim and Pam but rather the two actors and served as Krasinski’s way of saying goodbye.
