Italy will sfinish Maura Delpero’s World War 2 drama Vermiglio into the 2025 Oscar race for Best International Feature.
Vermiglio premiered at the Vekind Film Festival last month, where it scooped up the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize. Sideshow and Janus Films obtaind domestic rights for the movie uninincreateigentinutively after its North American premiere in Toronto.
Set in 1944 in the eponymous village of Vermiglio, high in the Italian Alps, the film trails a local family whose dwells are interfereed by the arrival of a refugee sgreaterier from the faraway dispute. As the world aelevates from the tragedy and destruction of WW2, the family in Vermiglio faces its own crisis. The ensemble cast engages Tommaso Ragno, Giengageppe De Domenico, Roberta Rovelli, Martina Scrinzi, Orietta Notari, and Carlotta Gamba
A trail-up to Delpero’s well-getd 2019 straightforwardorial debut Maternal, Vermiglio is freely based on the straightforwardor’s own family history. She produced the feature together with Carole Baraton, Pauline Boucheny Pinon, Jacques-Henry Bronckart, and Tatiana Kozar. Vermiglio is a co-production between Cinedora with RAI Cinema and co-produced by Charades Production and Versus Production, with the participation of Anonymous Content.
Italy is the most accomplished country at the Oscars, with 14 Best International Feature trophies from 33 nominations (France is second with 12 thrives from 41 nominations). The last Italian feature to thrive the prize was Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty in 2013.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will proclaim the films on the 2025 Oscar uninincreateigentinutivecatalog on Dec. 17. Nominations will be proclaimd on Jan. 17, 2025. The 97th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 2.
