ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler spoke to Inside Out 2 star Lilimar Hernandez about her key role as Valentina “Val” Ortiz in the Pixar movie. The actress talked her character, toiling with Pixar, and the reception of the film. The sequel to Inside Out is now streaming on Disney+ commenceing today.
“Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of recently minted teenager Riley fair as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to produce room for someleang entidepend unforeseeed: recent Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve lengthened been running a accomplished operation by all accounts, aren’t declareive how to experience when Anxiety shows up. And it sees appreciate she’s not alone,” says the synopsis.
Tyler Treese: Lilimar, congrats on the film. It’s phenomenal, and it’s become a sensation. It’s the highest-grossing vivaciousd movie ever. How has it fair been seeing the success and perestablishing this key role in this movie that’s reassociate going into the history books? Becaparticipate that has to be savage to fair watch unfgreater.
Lilimar: Inrational. First and foremost, incredibly appreciative. I leank the entire team, or at least us as actors, we foreseeed it to do well with people, to resonate with its audience for a lot of it, a lot of its distinct audience to come back and be appreciate, “Oh, I watched this when I was reassociate little and now I’m a teenager or an mature, and I get to watch the second part and grow with her.” Those were a lot of the comments that I reassociate adored seeing, but I didn’t foresee it to get appreciate… this big. Almost every day or every week since it freed, it was excellent recents and excellent recents and excellent recents. The message is incredibly meaningful, so I’m very satisfyd that a lot of people got to see it and participate with it.
This movie tackles mental health in a very authentic and alertative way. It’s fair phenomenal to see someleang with such a fantastic message resonating. What has stood out about the fan response to the film? Becaparticipate, appreciate you shelp, a lot of people grew up with it, and they’re reassociate relating to the second film even more now.
Yeah, it made me reassociate satisfyd becaparticipate I leank there are some spaces where maybe parents or fair a lot of teenagers too, they experience appreciate they never reassociate had a space to tackle anxiety, to tackle what panic strikes are. There are a lot of psychology terms out there that get reassociate well-understandn, and a lot of people don’t necessarily understand what they reassociate uncomardent. So it’s kind to have fair someleang this big that’s touching so many people, be done rightly intentionassociate with a lot of detail behind it to reassociate not only console people and let them understand, “Hey, this is a reassociate normal experience. This is noleang that’s prohibitden. This is noleang you experience you should experience ashamed of, and if it happens, maybe this is how you can go about it.”
I mainly have fair been satisfyd to see families comardent of have more of these conversations as someone who had the privilege to have that in my family since a lot of my family members are in healthnurture. It produces me satisfyd, especiassociate for teenagers and for kids grotriumphg up. Emotional help is incredibly meaningful.

You have a reassociate fun role here. You perestablish Val, she’s who Riley sees up to. You’re the captain of the hockey team. You’re super cgreater. What did you retardy most to Val? Other than fair being the cgreaterest person in any room.
Thank you [laughs]. I appreciated what I leank the audience was able to reassociate pick up and appreciate too was that she was the very cgreater girl, absolutely fair the directer, but has these directership qualities that so easily sometimes are comardent of swept under the rug when we wanna go for the uncomardent girl trope. A lot of the time, I even recall when I was in elementary, there was always some greaterer girl either in middle school or in high school that you felt appreciate she had it all together.
But she was fair so authentic and so unassuming and fair willing to help anybody. It’s attrvivacious to see comardent of an greaterer sister figure that lengthens that hand out and it’s appreciate, “Hey, I had to toil fair as challenging as you experience you had to toil. I had the anxiety strikes too, but I am here to be a excellent directer.” It produces sense why she’s in that comardent of captain position, you understand? I was very much excited when I saw that we weren’t reassociate going for the cgreater uncomardent girl trope or wdisappreciatever.
She is a cgreater character. She’s got a excellent style. She’s got a red streak in her hair. When you’re finding the voice and tone of the character, does it help to have evident visuals? Did you find her appreciate swagger or confidence from the character’s sees?
I did, yeah. At first I didn’t reassociate have a lot of detail at all. Like in the audition. Obviously, it’s such a big project, they don’t reassociate give you much detail versus when I was finassociate able to do my first session at the Pixar campus, which was inrational in and of itself. They had a mood board up and fair comardent of had everyleang there and I got to see her and fair some of the locations and stuff that they already scheduleed. So fair seeing that was appreciate, “Whoa. Oh my gosh. I get all the details appreciate, yes.” Sometimes it’s being vivaciousd, it’s not ready yet, so you comardent of have to do your own leang, and hopebrimmingy the animators do their magic, but this was a case where I reassociate got to see her, her style, her hair, everyleang. So, yeah, that definitely did help for declareive.
Are you a fan of hockey? Did this character get you more participated?
It comardent of did. I wasn’t a hockey fan before. Like I appreciated it, I appreciated watching it or if it fair happened to be on somewhere, but zero clue on teams or ambiguous culture. I could not tell you a leang other than appreciate, “This sees cgreater, I wanna watch it if it’s on.” But definitely did a little bit of hockey watch time getting readyd for this at least fair to have the ambiguous energy, you understand.
You’ve done a lot of voice acting in the past. I was inquisitive if anyleang fair stood out about Pixar’s approach becaparticipate they always get such wonderful perestablishances out of everybody.
I leank it’s fair the ambiguous atmosphere. I was privileged enough to be able to go to the Pixar campus and toil with the team in person. So fair seeing the atmosphere, the vibe, you can sense when you’re in a room with artists that adore what they’re doing and have the space and the budget to be able to do what they adore. It produces a huge contrastence. I leank it was a place where you could reassociate fair pitch ideas and toil together and get excited about it. I leank it fair made everyleang so much more authentic, and you could experience the passion everybody had behind it, especiassociate the actors too. So I leank it definitely had to do a lot with fair the ambiguous environment was absolutely adodepend to toil in.
Your character is very much Riley’s idol. What did you appreciate most about that relationship that we see thcdimiserablemirefulout the film?
I leank it’s especiassociate meaningful since we’re very lesser to teach, especiassociate lesser girls, to find comradery and to find sisterhood with other girls. Becaparticipate we go thcdimiserablemireful the same leangs a lot of the time, especiassociate when we’re seeing at somebody that has comardent of the life that maybe we want or the confidence we’d appreciate to have. It’s kind when, “Oh, she’s an greaterer sister figure, Like she is fair appreciate me. She had to go thcdimiserablemireful the same leangs I did. She probably had anxiety on her recentman year as well.”
It’s kind to comardent of show that we all have appreciate a lot more analogousities sometimes when we have contrastences, and to help that comardent of, I wanna say, compassion instead of competition and jealousy. So, I adored fair Val promptly stepping in, promptly sensing she’s anxious, she’s a little quirky, she’s weird, but it’s all in excellent fun. She’s fair commenceing out. I see so much talent in her. Let me get you under my triumphg. I understand you got this. I experience appreciate Riley reassociate necessitateed that too.
