The growing franchise is writer/director Rian Johnson’s take on classic murder mystery novels, such as the books of Agatha Christie. Knives Out was first released in 2019 and introduced audiences to Benoic Blanc and his iconic southern accent. Johnson and Craig then returned in 2022 for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which was released on Netflix. Both films were met with immense critical acclaim, and fans have been desperate for the third installment since.

Wake Up Dead Man Has an incredible Cast

As well as their ever twisting narratives, the Knives Out movies are renowned for their phenomenal casts. 2019’s Knives Out threw Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, and Jaeden Martell into a Machiavellian mystery involving a family’s will. Glass Onion then flew Benoit Blanc to a tropical island alongside Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Dave Bautista, and Katheryn Hahn, and Janelle Monáe.

Wake Up Dead Man is upping the ante even further. While plot details remain a tight secret, the film’s ever-growing cast has slowly been revealed, and it might already be the best yet. Joining Benoit Blanc for his next mystery will be Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Mila Kunis (That 70s Show), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), and Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders). That’s not all. The rumor mill has been spinning about more A-listers joining the cast, with some insiders suggesting that Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are also joining the cast.

Knives Out 3 Is Already Continuing a Trend From the First Two Movies

Knives Out 3’s title is officially confirmed to be Wake Up Dead Man, continuing a tradition set by the first two Benoit Blanc mysteries.

Following the latest casting announcement, Rian Johnson released a statement expressing his excitement about the film. Johnson declared his already established love for classic murder mysteries and revealed why he was drawn to the character of Benoit Blanc. Johnson said:

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

Wake Up Dead Man
is currently scheduled for release on Netflix in 2025.
