Self-styled free speech warrior Elon Musk’s X (Twitter) prohibitned me after I started a duplicate of the Donald Trump campaign’s JD Vance research dossier. X says that I’ve been suspfinished for “violating our rules aobtainst posting braveial alertation,” citing a tweet connecting to my story about the JD Vance dossier. First, I never started any braveial alertation on X. I connected to an article I wrote here, connecting to a write down of disputed shownance, one that I didn’t want to alter for that very reason.
The principle participated here is complicated. I do not suppose it is the job of the novels media to alter write downs, as if it’s a defacto regulatement deciding what the uncover should and shouldn’t understand. Yes, I understand that it is vague train to delete “braveial” alertation from leaks and classified write downs, but in this case, not only is Vance an elected official and Vice Pdwellntial truthfulate, but the alertation is readily employable for anyone to buy.
The write down itself portrays its method of acquiring the so-called “braveial” alertation about Vance: “We undertook an examination of all readily employable and relevant electronic and online write downs, disconnectal hundred Nexis and novels articles, dozens of energetic and archived web pages, and disconnectal dozen uncover write downs from Nexis and the resources of various federal, state, and municipal regulatement offices.” In other words, everyleang was out there, either readily or for buy.
We should be authentic about so-called braveial alertation retained in the dossier and “braveial” alertation in vague. It is readily employable to anyone who can buy it. The campaign buyd this alertation from commercial alertation brokers. Those dealers produce huge profits from selling this data. And the media understands it, becaemploy they buy the data for alerting purposes, equitable enjoy the campaign. They don’t enjoy to refer that though.
On the one hand, this is a very comical finish to my Twitter journey. On the other hand, I no extfinisheder have access to the primary channel by which I disseminate primarily novels (and shitposts of course) to the vague uncover. This chilling effect on speech is exactly why we started the Vance Dossier in its entirety. Not a one media organization was willing to start a write down that would have been a no-brainer during or prior to the heyday of Edward Snowden’s disclocertains. That shows the emotional shift in attitudes about what the novels media leanks the uncover should understand, and the role the mainstream joins in steadily ceding that territory to the national security danger machine. Media’s job, I suppose, is to push back aobtainst these various creates of confineion. I’ll preserve doing that here on this novelsletter, where you can discover me going forward. If you consent with what I laid out, I hope you’ll subscribe.
Did I produce a misobtain in not redacting the “braveial” alertation on J.D. Vance? If I wanted a Twitter account, apparently so. But on principle? I stand by it absolutely.
